Shiatsu For You

Relax and revitalise

Shiatsu For You

Shiatsu, sometimes called Japanese Physiotherapy, is form of body work to relax and invigorate the body-mind. It is a very enjoyable and empowering whole-being therapy with roots in traditional Chinese Medicine.

How does Shiatsu work?

Shiatsu combines the use of energy channels and Acupressure points. These allow easy access the body’s Qi. Qi is the universal energy that animates all of life. In a healthy body Qi flows smoothly, supplying all bodily systems with health and vitality.

A reasonably healthy body can adapt around injury, stress and trauma to minimize the effect upon the rest of the body, but extra energy is required to perform normal bodily functions. As years pass, the adaptive patterns lose their effectiveness and symptoms may appear. Parts of the body may become stagnant, tired, depleted, or call your attention through pain.

Good health depends on life force flowing freely throughout all physiological systems of the body. To achieve this, Shiatsu uses a range of techniques may be used in response to your condition and need at the time of each treatment. To support and balance a body’s energy profound stillness and holding may be offered. To mobilize joints, to release and revitalize deep pressure, limb rotations and strong stretches may be used. This works to stimulate circulation, improve joint mobility, releases toxins and deep tension, supporting the hormonal and nervous systems.

Alongside sessions I offer supportive practices, which you may like to integrate into daily life: Qi Gong, meditation, relaxation techniques and dietary recommendations.

Benefits

Shiatsu is beneficial for a wide variety of conditions, whether the root is physical, mental or emotional. All your experiences have shaped you and your life. They are held within the body and may manifest as symptoms such like tensions, headaches, lack of energy, anxiety and depression. Certain areas of the body may be in pain, stagnant, tired or depleted.

The power of healing touch calms the nervous system. The body starts relaxing, initiating the healing process. Individual sessions are led by the pace and wisdom of your body. They offer you a safe space to pause, become still, listen deeply and relate directly to these experiences. The body’s self-healing power is sparked up, relieving symptoms and re-connecting you to your core. Shiatsu aims to assist the individual towards greater balance and natural alignment. As stress is released from muscles, tissues and structure of the body, mobility, comfort and well-being can improve.

What happens during a Shiatsu treatment?

During your confidential consultation, we will go through your questionnaire  together. At the start of each subsequent appointment there will be the opportunity for feedback and discussion, which allows your process to deepen.

A range of techniques may be used in response to your individual needs. To support and balance your body’s energy, profound stillness and gentle holding may be offered. To mobilise joints, to release and revitalise, deep pressure, limb rotations and strong stretches may be used.

Your reason for receiving Shiatsu usually determines the frequency of sessions. Often one treatment can bring great relief to your condition, 4- 6 sessions could complete the shift you are looking for. You might decide to continue with maintenance treatments, bi-weekly, monthly or quarterly.

Alexandra is one of those exceptional healers that take the art of Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine to a higher level. Her intuitive treatments, both hands on and at distance, get straight to the issues, identify the cause, and relieve the presenting issues.

After an operation distant sessions supported my recovery and hugely helped relieve pain.

Generally I am more relaxed, present and the quality of my sleep cycle has increased.

I can certainly recommend Alexandra for her healing art.

‘Thanks for having the bravery and skills to share a remarkable journey. Two years of working together left a great feeling beyond words in my heart. Thanks for allowing me to share so deeply with you, welcoming everything rather than running away.’

Alexandra clearly loves her work and creates a safe, warm, and accepting place in which to explore what I needed from the treatments at my own pace. Her naturally caring nature, great kindness, sensitivity, strength and sense of fun shine through and are infectious!
